My Home Group.........
The decision to form a home group is not difficult one but it should be considered carefully. Your home will be used for inviting visitors on a regular basis. You will offer endless cups of teas, coffees and biscuits. Maybe plan 'bring and share' lunches. It requires committment to contact group members or to be contacted frequently and to be available for pastoral care. To care for those whose faith is weak. To care for the sick and those with many problems, too numerous to mention.
Are you a group leader? Do you have Christian maturity? Are you well grounded in the word of God? Are you able to pray with and for others? Can you prepare and lead a group, encouraging others to parcipitate. If you are not sure then ask a Christian who you respect for their views and prayers. We want to encourage as many Christians as possible to become leaders and so it's worth remembering that the definition of a leader is also that of a servant.
We would strongly recommend :-
1. That two people lead each group and take turns in leading. It can be husband and wife or any two Christians. This does not preclude other Christians taking part and leading where appropriate.
2. That groups should be lead on the basis of the four 'W's :-
Welcome
Worship
Word
Witness
3. Choose two additional Christian friends for prayer support and help with organising.
There are no specific recommendations regarding study material as each group will be lead or function in slightly differing ways depending on individual requirements.
Meetings can be on any day of the week meeting in the morning, afternoon or evening depending on what is suitable. We have found that for evening meetings a 7.30 pm start for 8.00 pm works well with a finish time of 9.30 pm. Whatever times you choose try to keep to your times and not let meetings run on. If group members choose to stay on and talk thats fine.
